Presbyterian Night Shelter
For nearly 25 years, the Presbyterian Night Shelter (PNS) in east Fort Worth has served the needs of Tarrant County's homeless. Located in the shadows of downtown Fort Worth, the Shelter believes in respecting the dignity of its clients, while supplying meals, beds, and basic human care to an average of 704 homeless men and women every night.
Our staff of volunteers go to the shelter every Sunday evening @ 7:00 to sing, minister and pray with all those that will hear the Word of God.
FIRST CHURCH has considered the words of Jesus Christ and the disciples, and is determined to reach the homeless of downtown Fort Worth through volunteer work in the shelter's kitchen. Every 5th Sunday, a group of volunteers from our congregation go to the main shelter to serve food in their kitchen Afterwards, they split off into groups to go out and visit, share, teach and pray in the four shelter areas on campus.
We call this outreach ministry "Operation REACH" - Reaching, Evangelizing And Caring for the Homeless".
Matthew 25:35-36 (NIV)
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
1 John 3:17 (NIV)
If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?
